Automatic Emissivity Correcting IR Thermometer Outputs Temperature & Emissivity Values Online

Online Solution Provides Improved Furnace Process Control

Pyrofiber® Industrial

Pyrometer Instrument Co Inc., Northvale, NJ – The Pyrofiber®, fiber optic, non-contact, automatic emissivity correcting, IR thermometer has been upgraded to incorporate a single digital and two analog outputs. This allows the user to output both emissivity values (E) and emissivity corrected temperature values (Te) directly to their furnace process control or PLC. (Emissivity is a value that must be established to accurately determine infrared true temperature) This enables the users furnace process control system to become "intelligent" by being able to make dynamic changes to the process based on both temperature and physical changes to the target materials surface.

Utilizing patented pulse laser technology, the Pyrofiber® measures infrared radiance inside the furnace while simultaneously measures and corrects for emissivity, providing true target temperature. Additionally, changes in the target materials surface such as welds, changes in material thickness, and surface imperfections that cause emissivity variation can now be observed and transmitted directly to the furnace prcess control or PLC at speeds up to 4 readings per second. Information can also be output digitally to a PC or network main frame for analysis. This information can result in improved product quality and yield for the user.

The Pyrofiber® provides unmatched temperature measurement accuracy within ±5°F (±3°C). Several temperature models between 500°F- 5400°F (259°C – 2981°C) are available with target size ranges between .040" –2.300" (1mm –58mm) diameter at focal distance from 4" – 120" (101mm—3048mm). Custom fiber optic sensor applications are available.

Additionally, the Pyrofiber® can incorporate a furnace "wall shine" feature to measure reflective radiance from hot furnace walls, eliminating additional error, assuring temperature accuracy. Pyrofiber’s® microprocessor control measures radiance, emissivity and wall shine values at an extremely fast 1ms data acquisition rate.

Industrial applications include: metal heat treating, annealing, stress relieving, tempering, extruding, galvanizing, forging and foundry processes.
