Automatic Emissivity Correcting IR Thermometer Improves Furnace Process Control
Pyrometer Instrument Co Inc., Northvale, NJ The Pyrofiber®, fiber optic, non-contact, automatic emissivity correcting, IR thermometer improves furnace process control. Utilizing patented pulse laser technology the Pyrofiber® measures infrared radiance while simultaneously measures and corrects for emissivity providing true target temperature. This results in improved product quality and yield. (Emissivity is a value that must be established to accurately determine infrared true temperature.) The Pyrofiber® provides unmatched temperature measurement accuracy within ±5°F (±3°C). Several temperature models between 500°F- 5400°F (259°C 2981°C) are available with target size ranges between .040" 2.300" (1mm 58mm) diameter at focal distance from 4" 120" (101mm3048mm). Custom fiber optic sensor applications are available. The Pyrofiber® also incorporates a furnace "wall shine" feature to measure reflective radiance from hot furnace walls, eliminating additional error, assuring temperature accuracy. Pyrofibers® microprocessor control measures radiance, emissivity and wall shine values at an extremely fast 1ms data acquisition rate. This information can be output, in real time via digital or analog signal, at up to 4 readings per second. Online information can be transmitted to process controls, PC or network main frame for analysis. Industrial applications include: metal heat treating, annealing, stress relieving, tempering, extruding, galvanizing, forging and foundry processes.
